Reggae is a broad and pronounced rhythmic music genre that developed on the small Caribbean island of Jamaica in the 1960s and 1970s, and which has since spread around the world. It has many styles and subgenres. Like rocksteady, reggae was born out of the immensely popular ska music of the 1960s in Jamaica.
